'Vintage Voices' an anthology of life, love and death
By Jaime Martinez
"Vintage Voices: A Toast to Life" is a recently released anthology of short stories, poems and essays composed by the Redwood Writers, a local writers club. The anthology is divided into four sections that tie the theme of wine and the stages of life together. The first section is "Chardonnay: To the Planting," and it contains works about childhood. The second section, "Rose: To the First Bloom," tells stories of young love, the third section "Zinfandel: To the Harvest" is full of mature reflections and "Port: To the Bottling" tells stories about the last few days of life.
One particularly interesting story in the first section is called "Beginnings," by Gil Mansergh. This story is an appropriate opener for an anthology about life, as it is aptly titles and features a child who claims to remember her own birth.
